Desired Outcomes
Some areas of Baguio, particularly the Central Business District, are experiencing higher surface and ambient temperatures due to increasing urbanization, reduced vegetation, and the concentration of buildings and paved surfaces. Rising temperatures can affect public health, energy consumption, pedestrian comfort, and the city’s overall environmental quality.
The City is seeking innovative approaches to better understand and mitigate the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect. Solutions should support localized temperature mapping, evaluate the effectiveness of green setbacks and other nature-based cooling strategies, and provide evidence that can guide urban planning, infrastructure investments, and policies to create a cooler and more climate-resilient city.
